GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced that it will honor award-winning screenwriter, producer, and director Ryan Murphy with the Vito Russo Award at the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Hilton Midtown in New York on Thursday, March 19.

7 New York-Based Productions Win 2020 Golden Globe Awards

Empire State Development (ESD) tonight congratulated seven New York-based productions that won nine awards during the 2020 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards. The productions generated an estimated $285 million in New York spending and created over 13,300 hires across the state. The winning productions participated in the New York State Film Tax Credit Program. Launched in 2004, the program has incentivized more than $35 billion in economic investment across the state and continues to be the principal factor cited by productions when deciding to film and produce in New York.

LGBTQ Representation On TV Is Up Again, A GLAAD Report Says

There are more LGBTQ people on broadcast and streaming TV than ever before, but it’s not quite time to stop calling for more and better quality representation yet. In its latest annual report on LGBTQ characters on television, the non-profit GLAAD found that 10.2% of series regular characters on broadcast TV are LGBTQ on shows anticipated for the 2019-2020 season. That milestone was reached less than a year after GLAAD called on broadcast networks to increase their LGBTQ series regular representation to at least 10%, reported The Hollywood Reporter. And now, the organization is calling for broadcast shows to increase their LGBTQ series regulars to 20% by 2025.

Fund to Provide More Than $1 Million Per Year to Foster Diversity and Workforce Readiness Across the Entertainment Industry

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the first-in-the-nation Empire State Entertainment Diversity Job Training Development Fund. Productions participating in the New York State Film Production and Post-Production Tax Credit Programs will see a small reduction in their tax credits that will be diverted into a fund for job training and workforce development across the entertainment industry. The fund was passed as part of an end-of-session comprehensive capital spending bill and will initially provide $1.05 million per year.

20 Major Network Series Will Film in New York State This Year

At Least 45 Series Including Streaming Services and Premium Cable Have Committed to Filming in New York State as of May 17

Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that 20 major network series will film in New York State this year, including four new series. The announcements were made this week at the 2019 network upfronts, the presentations given by major networks to promote new and renewed series that will be part of their fall schedules. As of today, an additional 25 series distributed by streaming services, premium cable services or other broadcast companies have started filming or are confirmed to film in New York State. All series are participating in the New York State Film Tax Credit Program.

Governor Cuomo Announces Official Opening of New Silvercup Studios Film & TV Production Facility in the Bronx | Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the completion of Silvercup North, a new film and television production facility in the South Bronx. Silvercup Studios, one of the leading independent, full-service film and television studios in the Northeast, built the $35 million studio complex to help meet the growing needs of New York’s booming film and television industry. The new facility – Silvercup’s third New York studio – and the productions that will occupy it will create an estimated 400 well-paying production-industry jobs, as well as generate local revenue through the purchase of materials and other goods and services. Silvercup was awarded a $1.6 million performance-based grant through the New York City Regional Economic Development Council to assist with the construction, renovations and purchase of machinery and equipment for the new facility. The project created approximately 100 construction jobs.
